Laundry Hacks - Remove Stains and Odors Like a Pro

Laundry can be a dreaded chore. Thanks to two girls who love to change outfits at least three times a day, a sports-loving son who doubles as a grass stain magnet, and a husband who loves DIY projects, washing clothes is a never-ending job. Luckily, there are some great tips and laundry hacks that help anyone remove stains and odors like a pro!

1. Sweat stains seem like they require kryptonite to remove, but there are actually several ways to remove sweat stains.

*Make a baking soda paste by mixing just enough water with baking soda to create a think mixture. Spread it on the stain and let it sit for 2-3 hours before washing.

*Scrub the stain with white vinegar before washing.

*Mix equal parts of lemon juice and water and work the combo into the stain with a toothbrush before washing the garment.

2. Chalk or baby powder works overtime to remove grease stains. Rub chalk onto the stain and let it absorb the oil. Sprinkle baby powder onto the grease and gently brush over the stain. Let it suck up the grease for 5-10 minutes and repeat until it’s gone.

3. Hand sanitizer is an easy, quick, and effect way to remove ink stains. Spread the gel across the stain, wait 10 to 15 minutes and then wash as you normally would.

4. Acrylic paint can be removed with rubbing alcohol. Using a cotton ball, dab on the rubbing alcohol until the stain is saturated. Then, using some elbow grease, scrape away the stain and wash as normal.

5. Add 1 cup of vinegar at the beginning of the wash cycle for tough-to-remove odors.

6. Wash jeans in a load dedicated to just denim. Use cold water to prevent shrinkage and help prevent color-bleeding.

7. If your washer starts to smell funky, try running 1/2 cup of mouthwash through your washer’s rinse cycle – obviously without a load in it. It will help disinfect and clean!

8. Whites getting dingy or just not as bright as they used to be? Try boiling your favorite tops with sliced lemons.

9. Use a dry erase marker to write down items you need to keep out of the dryer directly on the dryer! Jot down a quick note on the dryer lid for each load to prevent yourself from accidentally shrinking or damaging garments.

10. Out of dryer sheets and/or fabric softener? Ball up a couple pieces of foil, making sure they are smooth balls, and toss them in your dryer for static-free finish.

There are hundreds of secrets to removing stains and making laundry less of a chore. Do you have a trick you have tried and loved? Share in the comment section below!
